Washington DC Sues Our Partner and Comast Over Pay Wages

I read this article and came to a few conclusions. This complaint claims that our partner, Arise Virtual Solutions and Comcast, which was a client in the network, improperly denied customer service agents bargains of employment such as minimum wage, overtime, and paid sick leave by misclassifying them as independent contractors.

The suit was filed by the DC Attorney General Karl Racine on behalf of workers. They are seeking damages for wages owed and request an injunction against both Arise and Comcast which prevents them from misclassifying workers.

As a service partner with the Arise network, I can clearly state that this is typical when people are brought into the network with the belief that they are employees. It is made very clear to every individual that joins my organization that you are joining as an independent contractor. This is clear by the level of flexibility that you are provided when you begin servicing. Yes, we do have metrics that you must meet as is the case with any call center duties. But in addition to that, the level of support you are provided will enhance your skills for the job if you are seriously accepting it.

While the perks of employment seem grand to someone in desperate need of income, the benefits of contract work far outweigh that of employment.

We can only sit back and watch to see what will come of this case. I’ll keep you posted on this as new information becomes available.

Have a great day!!!
